Looking for adventure on your vacation? It's all here at Storeytown Cottages, your year-round destination for outdoor adventure.
The Miramichi River is famous for fly fishing and its mighty Atlantic salmon. However, its tranquil waters offer another invigorating opportunity to experience the beauty of the river and its valley, up close, for those looking for something other than fishing.
Daytrips by canoe, kayak and tube are loads of fun for cottagers visiting the Miramichi River. As of 2015, we are offering stand-up paddle boarding as a new and unique way to travel the river!
The journey, anywhere from 2-5 hours back to Storeytown offers a variety of water from slow, deep pools, to faster low level rapids and quiet off-chutes.
Keep your camera nearby as it is a regular occurrence to see osprey, bald eagles, moose, otter and other wildlife along the way. The river will lead you directly to the shores in front of your cottage.
O'Donnell's Cottages was a family owned and operated accommodations and soft-adventure business located on the shores of the world famous Miramichi River in central New Brunswick, Canada. Beginning in 1991 with one cottage and 17 acres of riverfront property, Valerie O'Donnell and her husband Jackie have worked to build the business to what it is today.
In the spring of 2014, Valerie and Jackie sold their business to us (Jeremie & Christine).
We are both kayak, canoe & stand-up board instructors and have several years experience guiding multi-day trips in the wilderness. We met at an outfitters in Parry Sound, Ontario where we were both started working after graduating from outdoor adventure leadership programs in college and university. Our hearts were always set on one day owning our own adventure buisiness so in the fall of 2013, we packed up all our belongings in a 5' X 10' trailer and drove east. Why east? That's a question we get a lot. For us, it came down to staying close to family and being drawn to that Maritime hospitality we had felt in the past. We were confident it was the right choice but it still took some courage and quite a bit of second guessing along the way. ;)
We spent the winter driving around in search of that perfect property to start a business.
When we came across O'Donnell's Cottages (by accident one day) and met Valerie and Jackie, we were instantly impressed with the business they had built. Over the next few months as we kept revisiting the property and getting to know the O'Donnell's it became clear to us that we had found what we came out here looking for. A lot of patience and hard work followed that decision but on June 11, 2014 our dream came true.
We had a wonderful summer and had the honor of celebrating our wedding in September right on our property. In November 2015, the adventure continued, and the name O'Donnell's Cottages was changed to Storeytown Cottages. We continue to be amazed at the overwhelming support from our guests and neighbours during these big changes.
I can't forget to mention our buddy Scotch, who has been with us on our journey and is now our official customer greeter, quality controller and squirrel chaser.
We look forward to many years here enjoying life on the Miramichi and hope we can share it with you!
